How do you clean a wedding dress at home?

I was going to take it to the cleaner but they were going to change $300 just to clean it. I think that is to much and it is just dirt from the bottom. When I was just in the street getting in and out of the car. So there is black in the bottom of the dress. So how is the best way to clean it off?
