Is it ok to have a formal reception after we eloped?

My husband and I eloped and we still want to throw the formal reception. Is this still acceptable? I'm getting a lot of grief from one of the bridesmaids complaining that they shouldn't have to finish paying on their dresses because the whole point of getting the dress was to be in the church wedding. What should we do? The only thing that has changed is that we aren't going to the church anymore.

Bridesmaids? Completely inappropriate.

Formal Reception? Completely inappropriate.
