Is anyone having alterations done outside of their bridal boutique?

I am very unhappy with the bridal boutique I purchased my gown from and do not want to give them any more business. Is it difficult to find a seamstress to do alterations on a wedding gown? How do you know you found a good one?

i am. i bought my dress at davids bridal and while i had nothing but a good time there, seriously, the women were so friendly, and very attentive, and i got an AMAZING price on my dress....but their alteration prices are REDICULOUS!

so i went on to Yahoo's search feature. if you use yahoos search feature, the very first thing that comes up is a map of all the places in your area that fit the search term. so if you typed "seamstresses in Mytownusa" or whatever your city/state is, it will give a map with all their locations, and most of them have reviews written underneath them. so i did that, and then called all the ones that got good reviews and explained "hi, i bought a wedding dress from soandso, but it needs a few alterations. do you guys do wedding gowns?"

be sure to ask if they do wedding gowns. oddly, a lot of places dont always

EDIT: in order to find out prices, you have to actually go in with your dress so they can see what they would have to do. i suggested the yahoo search thing tho because lots of people really do write reviews on there (i know i love writing reviews for places in my town) so you can get a general idea of places people have had good experiences at. that is where you start just to get an idea and see if they do wedding dress. you WILL actually have to go in for the specifics and get a price qoute, but while your there you can get a vibe off the people who work there and things like that
