HAPPY FEET: THE BEAUTY OF FLIP-FLOPS

There was a time when flip-flops would be viewed with derision, as they were seen as informal, items of footwear that may just be worn to certain informal locations like the beach or barbeques, at best. Many of you can still recall the fuss that was kicked up when several members of the North-western Women’s Lacrosse team appeared at an official White House reception in thong sandals and critics derisively called them ‘flip-flops’. Now, that was as recently as two thousand and five, but the humble flip-flop has come a long way since that time. This piece and associated ones that follow are to show how these casual sandals are not just respectable, but favored footwear for many formal occasions, such as weddings. 

Humble origins

It is true that flip-flops have originally not been seen in an elevated position. This maybe as flip-flops are a style of casual sandal (though not the only kind) usually made out of rubber, and is not a very chique substance, don't you think? But, there are also varieties of very dressy thong sandals, that aren't known as flip-flops. By definition, therefore, flip-flops are a non-formal, slightly derided sandals that are easy to slip on and off, and easy to carry.

On bridal demand

However, flip-flops are among the most sought after foot attire today, and not only among the trendy people who wish to dress unconventionally. In fact, proof of the increasing acceptance of these sandals is their favoritism as bridal foot attire. Many women who have suffered through a traditional wedding will testify to the hours of agonizing suffering that a bride must go through in her stylish, traditional, shiny wedding pumps or agonizing stilettos. Not only must she socialize with the uncomfortable shoes on, but she must also smile through it all. No wonder, then, that brides have heartily agreed with the idea of wearing casual sandals to their wedding ceremonies with a vengeance, especially if the ceremony in question is not exactly the walking down the aisle type.

Universal access

That is not to express that casual sandals should be unwelcome at a church ceremony, however it is true that bridal flip-flops are more popular at a beach wedding, maybe, or one in a garden. But to whatever kind of wedding {ceremony} venue these sandals are used, flip-flops nearly always create an immediate atmosphere that helps participants to relax and enjoy the wedding nuptials. In keeping with their desirability in weddings, bridal flip-flops are now available in more fashionable arenas, so they can easily be used to church weddings, with no concern. So if you happen to be in the market bridal footwear, don't be at all amazed if the outlet employee recommends flip-flops set with gem stones, or ornamented with sequins or beads. 

Price rules

Perhaps the best part about flip-flops, wedding or otherwise, is their very low price range. So much so, you can obtain rubber flip-flops for as little as a dollar, though you might want to spend a bit more than that on your wedding shoes. If that is the case, you might have to spend all of five dollars at most. Inevitably, as soon as designers see a good thing, its price goes up, so you can really go all out on a pair of designer flip-flops, though it is purely a matter of personal choice.
